LCU SOFTBALL: Lady Chaps find redemption on Day Two

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (April 2, 2016) – Lubbock Christian University claimed the third game of the series 5-1 against St. Mary’s Saturday at the Softball Stadium inside The Park at St. Mary’s.

ELTSOSIE

Katera Eltsosie got the Lady Chaps (34-9) on the board first with a bomb over the left-center field fence in the second inning. Katlin Reed and Lindzi Cleemer both reached home in the third inning to give LCU a 3-0 lead. Hannah Fields scored a run in the bottom of the third for St. Mary’s (31-8) only run of the game. In the top of the seventh inning the Lady Chaps plated two more insurance runs with Sammie Murrietta driving in pinch runner Bailey Goolsby from first base on a double down the left field line.  The Lady Chaps would have the bases loaded and a sacrifice fly by Clemmer that would score Murrietta from third.

HOLMES

Katlyn Holmes (15-3) got the start for the Lady Chaps going the distance allowing only one run off eight hits while striking out five Rattlers.  Hope Russell (6-4) got the start for StMU going only three innings surrendering three runs off four hits.  Ashley Mills came in relief for the second time in the series going four innings allowing two runs off four hits.  

GOODWELL

Lady Chaps continue conference play on the road next weekend against Oklahoma Panhandle State.  Doubleheader is scheduled for Friday with game 1 starting at 2 p.m. and a single game on Saturday at 11 a.m..  Check out all the action on www.lcuchaps.com.
