WACO, Texas – Lubbock Christian University picked up a first place vote in the 2016 Heartland Conference preseason volleyball poll and was chosen to finish second within the league by the coaches and sports information directors.
UAFS was picked to win the title by earning 15 of 16 first-place votes and 127 points followed by LCU’s 102 points. The Lady Chaps completed their first season as full Division II members with an 18-11 record and a 10-6 conference record on route to a third-place finish in the regular season.
Dallas Baptist and Newman tied for third earning 90 points each. Newman completed their 2015 season at 26-9 and finished as runner-up in both the regular season and tournament to UAFS. DBU will return two of its top three offensive threats from a squad that went 14-12 and finished fourth in the Heartland. Texas A&M International rounded out the top five with 55 points. St. Edward’s, St. Mary’s and Oklahoma Panhandle St. concluded the final three spots in the poll.
The Lady Chaps open up the 2016 season at the Hilton Garden Inn Classic hosted by Texas Woman’s in Denton on Sept. 2-3 and will face Harding, Texas A&M-Commerce, CSU-Pueblo and host TWU.
