For the fifth time this season, LCU was pushed to the limit with a five-set match, and for the third time this season, the result was a victory. Emily Hanaway led Lubbock Christian with her fifth double-double of the season. This five-set thriller pushed the Lady Chaps to 11-8 overall and 7-1 at home this season. They are also riding a five-match home win streak and 4-0 against non-conference opponents at home. LCU is now 28-14 all-time against the Lady Mustangs of Midwestern State.
How It Happened
MSU scored the first three points of the game and there was no looking back from there, as the Mustangs never relinquished their lead. MSU committed no errors compared to LCU's 11. Midwestern State began pulling away with a 6-0 run in the middle of the set sparked by a Lubbock Christian service error. MSU gathered eight kills and a team attack percentage of .320 for the set. Sarah Glawe provided seven of her 25 assists to lead the Mustangs to a 25-13 victory over the Lady Chaps.
The Lady Chaps woke up in the second set thanks to some strong defense by Kelsie French. French provided 11 digs and three assists for Lubbock Christian. Aerielle Edwards tacked on seven kills and one ace for the Mustangs. However, Emily Hanaway pushed LCU to take a 5-0 run and pull away from MSU. Hanaway had seven kills and eight digs, which allowed the Lady Chaps to cruise to a 25-18 victory.
Midwestern State went on a 3-0 run sparked by a kill from Kiley Beaver and Aerielle Edwards second ace of the evening. However, the Mustangs were plagued by errors as an attack error by Sarah Garfield allowed LCU to tie up the game for the final time in the set. Lubbock Christian's Corey Jo Martin added 10 assists. Emily Hanaway provided the final point with a kill for Lubbock Christian on a 25-20 victory.
Emily Hanaway captured four kills to help LCU jump out to a quick 4-1 lead. The Lady Mustangs came roaring back to tie the set at 4-4 with the help of two consecutive kills by Addison Semer. From that point on, the Mustangs opened their lead with a 7-1 run. The Mustangs ultimately took the set 25-16. MSU's Sarah Garfield, Meghan Bettis, and Addison Semer each had three kills in the set.
There were four lead changes throughout the set as both Lubbock Christian and Midwestern State had attack percentages over .290. LCU got off to a 2-0 start. However, two consecutive kills by MSU's Beaver and Aduddell allowed the Mustangs to take a 4-2 lead. A late attack error by Kiley Beaver allowed the Lady Chaps to take their second and final lead of the set. Cory Jo Martin finished the match with her fifth kill of the evening. The set featured four lead changes and the score was tied on eight occasions before LCU won the set 15-13.

16-15 – Emily Hanaway grabbed her fifth double-double of the season with 16 kills and 15 digs for the evening.
43 – With Mallory Powell sitting out, Cory Jo Martin stepped in and provided Lubbock Christian with a career high 43 assists on the night.
23 – Kelsie French added 23 digs for the Lady Chaps. She now has 414 digs on the year.
15 – Midwestern State recorded a season high 15 total blocks on the night. It is the third time a Lady Chaps opponent has produced at least 15 team blocks this season. The season high mark is 16 by Arkansas Fort Smith (Sept. 22).
The Lady Chaps will kickoff a six-match road trip by heading to Weatherford, Okla. for a non-conference matchup against Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Saturday at 6 PM.
