LUBBOCK, Texas (December 16, 2016) - The Lubbock Christian University baseball program and head coach Nathan Blackwood have finalized their 2017 schedule, which has the Chaparrals opening their 2017 campaign Feb. 2, 2017 in Grand Prairie, Texas facing East Central (Okla.) for a neutral site contest at The Ballpark in Grand Prairie (Airhogs Stadium).
The Chaps have 49 games currently scheduled. LCU will play their first four games of the season in Grand Prairie, before hosting Adams State on Feb. 9, 2017 for their home opener (opens a four-game series). Lubbock Christian’s four-game series with ASU marks their only home games out of their opening 12 games. The Chaps will play 22 of their games at home (they had 29 last season), with Adams State, Colorado State - Pueblo, Southwest (N.M.) and West Texas A&M making visits to the Hub City for non-conference play. The Chaps toughest road stretch is scheduled in March, as they play 10 consecutive games on the road, with a non-conference trip to St. Mary’s kicking off the stretch.
Lubbock Christian is a member of the Heartland Conference, and a 24-game Heartland Conference season begins Mar. 10, 2017, with the Chaps heading to Oklahoma Christian. The Chaps will host conference foes St. Mary’s, St Edward’s, Newman and Rogers State this season. Each conference series will consist of a three-game series. LCU hopes to clinch a berth into the Heartland Conference Tournament, which is scheduled for May 14, 2017 at a to-be-determined location.
Last season, the Chaps went 37-19 last season in their first season with postseason eligibility as a NCAA Div.II member. They made their first appearance in the Heartland Conference Tournament and qualified for their first NCAA South Central Region Tournament. LCU went 25-5 at home.
