NORMAN, Okla. – The No. 7 Texas Tech Women's Tennis Team opened the Big 12 Tennis Championships with a 4-0 sweep over Kansas State Friday afternoon.
With the win, the Lady Raiders improve to 22-4 on the season while K-State drops to 11-15.
No. 75 Felicity Maltby and Gabriela Talaba took a 6-2 win in doubles action over Carolina Costamagna and Livia Cirnu just before Alex Valenstein and Alba Cortina-Pou clinched the point with a 6-1 victory on court three.
All three singles wins came in straight sets. Junior Katelyn Jackson gave the Lady Raiders a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Cirnu on court six. Maltby followed defeating Millie Stretton 6-1, 6-3 on court two.
Talaba extended her win streak to six matches with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Costamanga on court one. The win marked her 18th win at the No. 1 position, breaking the school record for most wins in the No. 1 position.
The Lady Raiders will face No. 24 Texas in the semifinals tomorrow at 2 p.m.
