LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's golf team will look to move past the NCAA Regional round for the third time in program history starting Monday morning when the Lady Raiders open the NCAA Lubbock Regional held at The Rawls Course.
The Lady Raiders, making their 17th all-time appearance in an NCAA Regional and its seventh over the past eight years, will be the first team off the No. 1 tee box Monday as Tech is paired with San Diego State and BYU as part of the 8 a.m. CT grouping.
"It seems like yesterday that it was announced we'd be hosting and now we're just a few days away," Tech head coach JoJo Robertson said. "I think our team is ready. We've played this course numerous times this season, so hopefully that will provide us a great advantage in what is a competitive field."
Robertson will utilize her usual lineup in the regional, consisting of juniors Gabby Barker and Lauren Mason, sophomores Mami Yamamoto and Cara Barker as well as freshman Sofia Garcia. This is the fifth-straight tournament where Tech has fielded the same lineup.
The Lady Raiders will need to finish among the top-six teams in order to advance to the NCAA Championships for the third time in school history and the second time in the past three years. Tech moved past the regional round in 1996 and then again in 2015 when the Lady Raiders put together an impressive final-round rally to end the year tied for fifth nationally after falling in the opening-round of match play.
In order to make another run this year, Tech will first have to get past a challenging 18-team field that features the nation's top-ranked team in UCLA as well as No. 4 Arizona State, No. 9 Furman, No. 16 Kent State, No. 22 Texas and No. 25 Oklahoma. The Lady Raiders, who are ranked 27th in the latest Golfweek poll, are one of 13 teams currently ranked among the nation's top 40 by the publication.
Fans are encouraged to walk the course with the Lady Raiders during all three rounds of the tournament as admission is free to all patrons. Spectators are asked to stay in the cart-path areas and out of the fairways during competition.
Parking will be available throughout the NCAA Lubbock Regional in the lots just west of University Medical Center near the John Walker Soccer Complex. A free shuttle will transport spectators to and from the course for the duration of the tournament.
