SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Day one of junior championships began today as the senior championships continued on with their second day of competition. Two Red Raiders competed in the finals with one advancement to the Pan American Championships.
Justin Hall made a first-attempt leap of 7.56m/24-9.75 in the long jump that stuck for a No. 2 finish overall at the USATF Junior Championships. This jump earned Hall a spot on Team USA, traveling to the U20 Pan American Junior Championships in Lima, Peru, on July 21-23.
Kyle Collins qualified for the men's 400m finals with a 45.10 run that placed ninth overall. This was Collins' third fastest race ever. He will continue in his battle to move on to the IAAF World Championships tomorrow at 3:31 p.m CDT.
Zarriea Willis tied for seventh overall in the women's high jump finals. Willis cleared 1.80m/5-10.75 in her first attempt, yet did not move on after her misses at 1.85m-6-0.75.
Norman Grimes competed in the men's 400m hurdles, finishing 11th clocking a 52.10 run. This was Grimes' first meet to compete in since the indoor season.
Collins is the lone Red Raider competition to look out for tomorrow, as he fights to finish in the top-two in the men's 400m finals at 3:31 p.m. CDT.
