LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech incoming freshman Davide Moretti was chosen to play for the Italian National Team in the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Under 20 Men’s European Championships which begins this weekend on the island of Crete in Greece.
Italy will start Group D pool play Saturday against Serbia followed by matchups versus Spain and Slovenia on Sunday and Monday, respectively. Texas Tech head coach Chris Beard will be in attendance, and all three games will be televised on FIBA’s You Tube channel at www.youtube.com/FIBA.
After pool play is complete, all 16 teams will be seeded for championship bracket play. Members from Group D will be paired against Group C which features Israel, Latvia, Lithuania and Ukraine. Bracket play gets underway on Wednesday, July 19.
Moretti has represented his country as a member of the U18 and U20 National Teams last summer. He secured All-Tournament First-Team honors and led Italy to a Bronze medal finish at the 2016 FIBA U18 European Championships
