LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech head men's golf coach Greg Sands has announced the hiring of Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen as his assistant coach.
Andresen comes from Stephen F. Austin, where he served as the assistant men's and women's golf coach for the 2016-17 season.
"We're very excited to bring Mikkel to Lubbock," Sands said. "He brings a great reputation, a lot of energy and Big 12 playing experience to this staff. He really just has a passion to learn, and he is eager to bestow what he knows onto our guys. I'm looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish in the coming years."
In his lone year on the Stephen F. Austin staff, Andresen helped guide the Lumberjacks to four top-two team finishes, including second place at the Southland Conference Championship. He also helped lead the LadyJacks to six top-five team finishes.
"My wife Hannah and I could not be more excited to move to Lubbock and become part of one of the best athletic departments in the country," Andresen said. "The opportunity to work for Coach Sands is incredible. I consider him as being on the short list of the best coaches in the nation. It's the perfect fit. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and having a positive impact on this program. I'm ready to get started."
Andresen competed at Baylor from 2011-14 and posted a 73.79 career scoring average, ranking 12th all-time in program history as well as 11th in career rounds played (124). He was named the Big 12 Golfer of the Month in October 2014 after winning medalist honors at the 2014 Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, becoming just the fifth player in program history to earn the award.
During his four-year career at Baylor, Andresen notched seven top-10 finishes and 17 top-25 showings, registering 47 rounds of par or better, including a 6-under 66 on two occasions. He was a two-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree and a five-time Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll member, showing his commitment to the classroom, earning his degree in business.
A native of Baerum, Norway, Andresen played for the Norwegian junior and amateur national golf team from 2009-14. He won the 2010 Titleist Tour Order of Merit, helping Norway to a second place finish at the 2010 European Boys Team Championship in Istanbul, Turkey. Andresen also finished fifth at the 2010 Egyptian Amateur Open while competing in the 2011 British Amateur Championship.
Andresen and his wife, Hannah, were married in October of 2015.
