HOUSTON, Texas/Tulsa, Okla. – Jackson Cobb and Matheus Leite of the Texas Tech men's tennis team earned a runner-up finish in doubles on Saturday at the Rice Invitational.

Cobb and Leite started the day and emerged with an 8-5 triumph over Rice's Oscar Janglin and Eric Rutledge. The duo had their four-match winning streak to begin the fall season come to a close versus Gabriel Evans and Sebastian Mortier of Incarnate Word in the finals. Cobb and Leite were handed an 8-7 (6) defeat during a back-and-forth affair.

Justin Bloss and Pyry Hyrkkönen added an 8-3 doubles consolation win over UNC Wilmington's Ignasi De Reuda and Michael Morphy. Singles play also was kind to Bloss and Hyrkkönen who garnered straight set wins over opponents from Rice and Air Force, respectively. They dropped a combined 10 games between them.

"As a team, we did some good things and had other areas that need attention," Texas Tech assistant coach Daniel Whitehead said. "We started both doubles matches today with great intensity, but we struggled to maintain that intensity in the second round of doubles. Singles was a mixed bag, but I thought that Pyry and Justin had solid performances physically and mentally. Tomorrow will be a test for these guys, and I want to see how we respond to some tough competition to close out this tournament."

Tommy Mylnikov was unable to capitalize on his opening round bye in prequalifying at the Saint Francis ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa. He was handed a 6-3, 6-3 loss by Noe Khlif of Illinois. The Red Raiders will return to action
