LUBBOCK, Texas – The senior trio of Keenan Evans, Niem Stevenson and Zach Smithcombined for 45 points on a 15-for-23 shooting clip to fuel the Texas Tech men's basketball team to an 88-69 exhibition victory over Angelo State Wednesday at the United Supermarkets Arena.
Evans poured in 14 of his 21 points during the opening half. He distributed five assists and added a steal over his 31 minutes of action. The Richardson native was an efficient 6-of-7 from the floor and knocked down all three of his three-point attempts. He also was a flawless 6-for-6 at the charity stripe.
Stevenson dialed up 14 points and six rebounds whereas Zach Smith tacked on a solid all-around effort with 10 points, eight rebounds and six assists in his 19 minutes of court time. Four of Smith's eight rebounds were on the offensive end.
Zhaire Smith chipped in nine points, two rebounds and two steals, while Jarrett Culverregistered eight points and four rebounds during their exhibition debuts. The freshmen also hit on 7 of their 12 field goal attempts.
Tommy Hamilton IV secured seven points followed by Brandone Francis and Justin Graywho collected six points apiece. Gray also came away with six rebounds and two assists.
Avery Benson tacked on a pair of layups, and Andrew Sorrells converted a layup off a steal in the closing minute to wrap up the 19-point victory.
Texas Tech will play a Hurricane Relief exhibition contest against New Mexico State on Sunday to benefit the Greater Houston Community Foundation. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT from the Chaparral Center in Midland. All tickets for the event are $10 and can be purchased through the Texas Tech Athletics Ticket Office.
