Women's Tennis Adds Final Piece to Signing Class

LUBBOCK, Texas – Denise-Antonella Stoica has signed her National Letters of Intent (NLI) and Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA) to continue her career with the Texas Tech women's tennis program announced Friday.

Stocia joins Sydney Jones, Nell Miller and Olivia Peet who inked their NLIs and ASAs earlier this week. All four players will be freshman for the Lady Raiders starting for the 2018-19 season.

A native of Romania, Stoica trains in Barcelona, Spain. She is in the WTA Top 1000 ranked players and has reached as high as 279 in ITF Juniors. While ranked No. 2 in the Romanian Junior Rankings, Stoica worked her way to the 2017 Romanian Junior Cup Championship and the ITF Oslo Runner-Up title.

"We are so excited to have Anto join the family," Texas Tech head coach Todd Petty said. "She is bringing a lot of experience of playing at the highest level. She has big goals for her future and can't wait to be a part of helping her reach those. She absolutely loves being on the court all the time. That type of mentality fits in perfectly with our group."

Texas Tech turns its attention to the spring schedule which begins with the Michigan Invitational from January 13-15. The Lady Raiders will play their first dual match when they head to Seattle to take on Washington on Friday, January 19.
