LUBBOCK, Texas – Sophomore forward Brittany Brewer became just the third Lady Raider in program history to be named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team.
Brewer was one of six student-athletes selected to the District 7 team. The Abilene, Texas, native is joined on the team by Cherise Beynon (New Mexico), Lauren Cox (Baylor), Mikayla Ferenz (Idaho), Shaelyn Martin (Kansas State), and Clara Tapia (Wyoming).
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, with first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees to be announced in March.
To be nominated, a player must be at least a sophomore, have a 3.30 cumulative GPA and participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games.
Brewer is currently pursuing a degree in Community, Family and Addiction Sciences and has a 4.0 cumulative GPA. She is the third Lady Raider in program history to earn a spot on the Academic All-District First Team along with Erin Grant (2006) and Jolee Ayers-Curry (2004). Brewer is the first to be named to a team since Jordan Murphree was named to the second team in 2009.
The last time a Lady Raider was named CoSIDA Academic All-America was in 1992 when Jennifer Buck earned a spot on the second team.
