Texas Tech Track and Field complete day one of the Texas Relays

AUSTIN – The Red Raiders completed day one of the 91st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays with three personal best marks and a second place finish.

Brandon Bray highlighted the day as he captured second place in the Men’s Pole Vault. In his first meet of the 2018 outdoor season, Bray cleared 5.35m (17-6.5). Teammate Drew McMichael finished in seventh place as he cleared a season-tying 5.20m (17-0.75).

Newcomer Cornelius Kiprotich finished in ninth place in the men’s 1500m run after posting a team-leading 3:57.93. Darien Tennon was two places out of qualifying for the finals in the 400m Hurdles. He ran a season best time of 51.30, placing second in his heat.

On the women’s side, Kirsten Johnson ran a personal best time of 59.57 in the women’s 400m Hurdles prelims. Jasmine Torres shaved two seconds off her personal best time in the 3000m steeplechase. She finished in eighth place with a time of 10:56.93.

UP NEXT

The Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays continues tomorrow. Preliminary heats for the sprint events begin at 9:35 a.m. with the 4x100m relay.Field events begin at 10 a.m. for the Red Raiders with the section B of the women’s high jump.
