LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's golf team put together possibly its best day of the season Saturday as the Red Raiders built an 11-stroke lead following two rounds of the Lady Boilermaker Invitational held at the Ackerman-Allen Golf Course.

Four different Red Raiders rank among the top-10 individuals in the six-team event as Mami Yamamoto leads the field at 2-under-par for the tournament followed by teammate Gabby Barker just a stroke back.

As a team, Tech opened the tournament with an impressive 4-under 284 opening round before finishing the day at 2-over for the 36 holes. No. 21 Purdue is in second place at 13-over, while Augusta and Northern Illinois are even further back in third and fourth place at 24-over and 25-over, respectively.

"I'm really happy for the team and the way they played today," Tech head coach JoJo Robertson said. "I saw a lot of great shots out there. We'll look to put together a good round tomorrow and see what happens."

Tech combined for 16 birdies during the opening round alone, six of which came from Barker as she and Lauren Mason paced the Red Raiders early with a pair of 2-under 70 cards. Barker posted three of her six birdies over her final four holes as she is on pace for her third-consecutive tournament in the top 10.

Yamamoto signed for a 1-under card during both rounds, the final of which was characterized by consistency as she had 17 pars to go along with a birdie at the par-4 3rd. She and Barker will likely battle for medalist honors Sunday as their closest competitors are the Northern Illinois tandem of Brielle Ward and Isaabella Samudio at 1-over for the tournament.

Mason closed the day in a tie for fifth overall as she is 4-over for the tournament, just one stroke ahead of Louisa Brunt in a tie for seventh overall. Amy Taylor rounded out the Tech lineup in a tie for 15th at 9-over during the two rounds.

Tech will be paired with Purdue and Augusta again Sunday morning when the final round tees off with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Live scoring will be available throughout the round at Golfstat.com.
