No. 14 Lady Raiders Tennis Heads to Big 12 Championship Match

AUSTIN – For the fourth straight year, the No. 14 Women's Tennis team advanced to the final match of the Big 12 Championship after defeating No. 7 Oklahoma State, 4-1, on Saturday.
 
"I was really proud of the girls. It's one of those wins that you need," Head Coach Todd Petty said. "We're starting to play some of our best tennis and It's a credit to the girls and how much work they've put in. Every time we play Oklahoma State, it's a heated match because we respect them so much and I respect Chris (Young) and his team so much."
 
With the win, Texas Tech (20-5) records its fourth 20-win season in the last five years.
 
After dropping the first game, Alex Valenstein and Katelyn Jackson took down Oklahoma State's Megan McCray and Sami Court (6-1) on court three. No. 13 Vladica Babic and Sofia Blanco defeated No. 21 Sabrina Federici and Sarah Dvorak, 6-2, to even the doubles.
 
It came down to court two. The two battled back and forth until Felicity Maltby and Gabriela Talaba tied the match 6-all to force tiebreakers. The two teams continued to go point-for-point until Tech clinched the point with an 11-9 final. The win improved the duo to 20-3 on the year and marked their 14th straight win.
 
Katelyn Jackson opened singles action with a quick 6-0, 6-0 win on court six to give the Lady Raiders a 2-0 lead. With the win, Jackson is now 5-0 on the season.
 
No. 56 Felicity Maltby captured her third win over a ranked opponent with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over No. 112 Katarina Stresnakova on court three.
 
No. 34 Megan McCray gave the Cowgirls their only point of the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Alex Valenstein on court two.
 
Sarah Dvorak clinched her sixth match point for the Lady Raiders this season when she took down Sofia Blanco in straight sets (6-3, 6-2).

The Lady Raiders will face No. 6 Texas in the Big 12 Championship match on Sunday at 1 p.m.
