No. 11 Texas Tech women’s tennis primed for NCAA Championships

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 11 Texas Tech Women's Tennis team is set for the NCAA Championships Round of 16 this weekend.
 
The Lady Raiders (22-6) will face No. 6 Texas (24-4) on Thursday at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, N.C. First serve is set for 9 a.m. (CT) on the lower courts. The winner advances to the quarterfinals and will face the winner of No. 3 Duke and No. 14 Northwestern.

Texas Tech has won eight of its last nine matches, falling to Texas in the regular season and the Big 12 Championship match. The Lady Raiders then played host to Army, Princeton and Illinois for the Lubbock Regional. Texas Tech came out with a 4-0 sweep over Army and a 4-2 victory over No. 19 Illinois to advance to the Sweet 16 for the fourth straight season.
 
Last year, the Lady Raiders defeated Auburn, 4-2, in the Round of 16 to advance to the Elite Eight for the first time in program history.
 
The Longhorns enter the weekend on a 19-match win streak. Texas captured the Big 12 regular season and tournament titles with a perfect 9-0 record. To earn a spot in the Sweet 16, Texas defeated McNeese State and Texas A&M with 4-0 wins over both.
 
Texas Tech won the doubles point over the Longhorns in the first meeting of the season, but dropped lost it in the second meeting. Alex Valenstein won a singles point with her 6-1, 7-6(5) win over Bojana Markovic in the first match.
 
In the Big 12 finals, the Lady Raiders' lone point came from Sarah Dvorak's 6-4, 6-1 victory over Marta Perez-Mur.
