TEMPE, Ariz. – After another successful season, the Texas Tech Women's Tennis team took home three ITA regional awards.
"I couldn't be more proud of these young ladies and the way they represent Texas Tech," Head Coach Todd Petty said. "This is just icing on the cake for their career."
Senior Sabrina Federici earned two awards, the Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award and the Most Improved Senior award. She is the first Lady Raider in program history to secure the two awards and the first to claim two awards in one season.
Federici finished the season 17-4 and a perfect 6-0 record at the No. 5 position. She was selected team captain be her teammates for the third straight year, participates in the Tech leadership program and volunteers in the community.
Senior Gabriela Talaba was awarded the Texas Region Senior Player of the Year after her outstanding season. Talaba posted a 15-8 record this season and was 14-6 when playing at the top position for the Lady Raiders. During the Sweet 16 match, Talaba defeated No. 1 Bianca Turati in straight sets, marking the highest ranked win in school history.
The Lady Raiders made program history once against as they advanced to the fourth consecutive Sweet 16 and second straight Elite Eight. Texas Tech finished the season 23-7 after taking down No. 6 Texas in the Round of 16 match. The Lady Raiders' season came to an end on Saturday as Tech fell to No. 3 Duke.
