LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Women's Tennis team landed five singles players and all three doubles pairs in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Texas Region rankings.
The regional rankings are announced following the season and Texas Tech was slotted at No. 2, just behind Big 12 rival Texas.
Senior Gabriela Talaba led the team with the No. 2 ranking in Texas. She posted a 5-2 record against regional opponents. Talaba made Texas Tech history after capturing a two-set win over nationally top-ranked Bianca Turati (Texas), marking the highest ranked win in program history.
Felicity Maltby pulled in a No. 4 regional ranking following her junior season. She posted a 2-2 record against other Texas region athletes. Maltby earned a win over the No. 6 athlete in the Texas region when she defeated Maria Kononova (UNT) in the opening round of the NCAA Singles Championships.
Senior Sabrina Federici ranked ninth in the region after another successful spring season. Federici was 3-1 against Texas region opponents.
Seniors Katelyn Jackson and Sarah Dvorak rounded out the Top 15 with a No. 11 and No. 15 ranking, respectively.
All three doubles pairs were ranked in the Top 10. Dvorak and Federici captured the No. 1 ranking after another great season. The duo posted a 12-10 overall record and went 4-1 against Big 12 opponents.
Talaba and Maltby came in at No. 4 in regional doubles rankings. They posted a team-leading 22-4 overall record and went 6-1 against other Texas region athletes. The pair clinched the doubles point in the Sweet 16 match against No. 6 Texas to give the Lady Raiders a 1-0 advantage.
The Lady Raiders no. 3 doubles team of Alex Valenstein and Lana Rush earned a No. 8 ranking in the region. The pair went 2-2 against other Texas region athletes, all Big 12 opponents.
