LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech cross country is set for its first and only home meet of the season. The meet will begin Friday at 8:30 a.m. with the men's 8k, followed by the women's 5k at 9 a.m.
"It is always good to host a home meet," said head coach Jon Murray. "The team seems to rise to the occasion and have some of their best races. Both teams have been working incredibly hard, and I anticipate breakthrough races from several on the team."
One runner who is looking for a breakthrough is Miguel Bautista, who is two years removed from being Tech's top runner at the Big 12 Championships. After taking a redshirt season last fall, Bautista returns for his final cross country season ready to make an impact on an already experienced men's team.
"It is going to be fun to watch Miguel back on the course after his year off from competition," Murray said. "His year off has been a strong development year, and it's going to show in his races this year."
The Red Raiders raced part of the team at the ACU Invitational at Abilene Christian last week and placed all five scorers for both the men's and women's races in the top-10.
Friday's meet will take place at the former Chaparral Ridge Golf Course off Frankford Avenue.
