LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's tennis team will aim to divide and conquer this weekend as they travel to a pair of events in San Francisco and Lafayette.
The Battle in the Bay tournament, hosted by the University of San Francisco, is one of the premier collegiate contests that boasts a loaded field of both men's singles and doubles participants from across the Division I landscape.
Three Red Raiders will square off on the left coast this weekend, including senior Tommy Mylnikov and juniors Parker Wynn and Jackson Cobb. The six-round tournament will begin on Friday and run through Sunday.
"San Francisco is going to be a tough challenge," head coach Brett Masi said. "This tournament features top players from all over the country. We are lucky to be here and hopefully we can make the most of it. I can't wait to see how we fair this weekend."
The John Breaux Cajun Tennis Classic, a familiar event for the Red Raiders, is also a three-day affair with both singles and doubles play. Senior Artem Kapshuk and sophomore Ilgiz Valievwill look to continue a history of Tech success in the bayou.
"We've gone to the Cajun Classic in Louisiana the last two years and have had our fair share of success," Masi said. "We've won the back draw in singles both years and have advanced to the finals in doubles once and won the event a couple years ago. Hopefully, we can continue that success with Artem and Ilgiz, who are both playing well and looking forward to the competition."
