Red Raider basketball announce home non-conference game times

LUBBOCK, Texas – Dates were set but now we know the times.

Texas Tech has announced its non-conference home game times, including the season opener at 6:30 p.m. against Incarnate Word on Tuesday, November 6 in the first of nine non-conference games in Lubbock. The Red Raiders start the 2018-19 season with three home games at the United Supermarkets Arena against UIW, Mississippi Valley State at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9 and Southeastern Louisiana at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13. The team was 17-1 at home last season and is on a 38-game winning streak against non-conference opponents at home.

After trip to Kansas City for a pair of games at the 2018 Hall of Fame Classic in the Sprint Center, the Red Raiders return home to play at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24 against Northern Colorado, Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5 and Northwestern State at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12. The Red Raiders will then host Abilene Christian at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum in a throwback matchup. The game against ACU will not be televised and is not part of the 2018-19 season ticket package.

A matchup against The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 28 will be the final game of the 2018 calendar year and the last game before the start of Big 12 play which begins against West Virginia on Wednesday, Jan. 2 in Morgantown, West Virginia. Seven games into the conference schedule the Red Raiders will play their final regular-season non-conference game when they host Arkansas at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26 in the 2019 SEC/Big 12 Challenge. The Red Raiders and Razorbacks are 39-39 all-time against each other and will be meeting for the first time since an overtime contest in 2016.

The Red Raiders will be featured during their home non-conference schedule on Fox Sports Southwest against Southeastern Louisiana and Northern Colorado and on FSSW+ five times against UIW, Mississippi Valley, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Northwestern State and UTRGV.

Texas Tech head coach Chris Beard is entering his third season leading the program and is 33-4 overall in Lubbock. The Red Raiders are coming off one of the best seasons in program history where they advanced to the Elite 8 and finished ranked No. 6 in the AP and coaches poll after winning 27 games that included NCAA tournament victories over Stephen F. Austin, No. 23 Florida and No. 11 Purdue. The 38-game nonconference home winning streak ranks fifth nationally dating back to the 2013-14 season. The Red Raiders have won 32 of the 38 games during the streak by 10 or more points fueled by 22 of the last 24 contests dating back to a 71-56 over Sam Houston State on Dec. 2, 2015.
