LUBBOCK, Texas. – Texas Tech junior Bjorn Thomson has been appointed to the Big 12 SAAC chair position by his conference peers.
The Big 12 SAAC is an organization that allows student-athletes from each conference institution to organize and let their voices be heard through feedback on local and national athletic legislation, as well as voice the overall opinions of their fellow student-athletes to create social change.
Thomson, who was selected as the vice chair of the conference SAAC in July, was unanimously voted to fill the recent vacancy in the chair position for the remaining duration of the 2018-19 academic year.
Previously, the chair position was required to have at least one year of experience to serve as the chair. However, the rest of the SAAC members amended the previous requirement in order to ensure Bjorn was granted the spot as chair.
Fellow Tech student-athletes Travis Bruffy and Zuri Sanders, who also serve as representatives, led the charge in their support for Bjorn.
