Red Raider golf adds three on national signing day

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech has announced that three talented golfers in Ludvig Aberg, Garrett Martin and Alejandro Pedryc have each signed their national letter of intent to join the Red Raider men's golf program and head coach Greg Sands.
 
The trio will arrive from San Antonio, Sweden and Poland to compete in a program that has advanced to 17 straight NCAA postseasons appearances and were 2018 NCAA quarterfinalist.
 
"This is a class we're thrilled about," Texas Tech Associate Head Coach Mikkel Bjerch said. "We are beyond excited about bringing in three great players who compete the right way. They are all high caliber players who have the ability to get even better. It's a fun mix with two International players and one from here in Texas. We like their games and are looking forward to getting them here."
 
Ludvig Aberg | Eslov, Sweden
Member of Swedish National Team… Currently ranked No. 17 by AJGA (all classes) and is No. 6 by Junior Golf Scoreboard (No. 4 for the 2019 class)… Ranked as #106 on World Amateur Golf Ranking… Aberg is the No. 4-ranked Amateur golfer in Sweden… Finished 7th at Junior Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, 6th at the Ping Invitational held at Karsten Creek and made the cut and finished T34th at a European Tour Event (Nordea Masters)… Also finished 6th at the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley… In 2017 he won the Fairhaven Trophy and also won individually the stroke play portion of European Boys Team Championship in La Manga, Spain.
 
"His demeanor is might be his biggest strength," Bjerch said. "He has great emotional control and plays the game the right way. He is determined and makes good decisions under pressure. The consistency of his ball-striking from tee to green is another strength of his."
 
Garrett Martin | San Antonio, Texas
Currently ranked No. 44 by JGS (No. 29 for the 2019 class) and is No. 58 by AJGA (all classes)… AJGA Champion with multiple wins in Texas… Is a two-time winner of the prestigious Bart Granger High School tournament where he shot an unofficial UIL record of 61… Earned 1st team All-State last season as a junior... Is a 3-time 1st-Team all-district selection and has earned 1st-Team all-region honors in each of his first three high school seasons... Has also been tabbed as a 3-time San Antonio Express-News Super Team selection and was the 2018 San Antonio Express-News Player of the Year… Martin holds a share of every individual and team record at San Antonio Johnson High School and is coming off a scoring average of 69 during 2017-18 season.
 
"He's a strong player who has had a great high school career in Texas," Bjerch said. "Some of his greatest attributes are his maturity and work ethic. Skill-wise Garrett is a very consistent ball-striker. He has shown on numerous occasions how he's not afraid to shoot low and close out tournaments."
 
Alejandro Pedryc | Warsaw, Poland
Pedryc is a member of the Polish National Team and the top-ranked Amateur player from Poland… Currently ranked at No. 307 on WAGR… Won the Polish Match Play Championship, Polish International Amateur Championship, and the Polish International Junior Championship this season… Pedryc finished tied for 13th at the World Amateur Team Championship (Eisenhower Trophy) held in Ireland in September.
 
"Alejandro will be a really fun guy to have on the team," Bjerch said. "He's a highly talented, young player with a great work-ethic. He'll be 17 when he gets here and has a high ceiling. His consistency will get better and better as he plays against better competition."
 
Texas Tech will return to competition this season at the Amer Ari Invitational on Feb. 7-9, 2019 in Kona, Hawaii in the first of six spring tournament will lead into the Big 12 Championship on April 26-28 in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
