Report: Kansas to hire Les Miles

Posted: Updated:

Kansas is close to finalizing a deal to hire Les Miles as its next football coach.

Sports Illustrated reports an announcement could be made this weekend.

David Beaty will not return to lead the Jayhawks after this season. Kansas is currently 3-7, 1-6 in Big 12 play. The program has had a losing season each year since 2008, when Mark Mangino was head man. This includes a winless 2015 campaign and one-win seasons twice. Turner Gill, Charlie Weis and Beaty have been unable to right the ship.

Miles, 65, has a 141-55 head coaching record, including 114-34 at LSU from 2005 to 2016. He has experience in the Big 12, including part of his stint as offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State from 1995 to 1997 and as head coach of the Cowboys from 2001 to 2004.

Texas Tech has won 12 straight games over Kansas and is 19-1 all-time.
