IRVING, Texas – The Big 12 announced Wednesday that Texas Tech jumpers Odaine Lewisand Zarriea Willis were named Men's Athlete of the Week and Women's Athlete of the Week, respectively.
Lewis secures the award after landing a top mark of 26'-2.75" (7.99m) in the long jump at Saturday's Corky Classic. His leap counts as the number one jump in the nation. It also landed him at fourth in program history.
Willis joined Lewis as a conference award honoree after clearing 6'-0.25" (1.85m) to win the Corky Classic's high jump. Willis' mark tied her for first in the nation in the high jump, and it secured yet another top-10 slot for her in the Tech record books. Willis now owns nine of the top-12 high jump marks in program history.
Lewis and Willis will be in action Friday at Tech's second home meet of the year, the Red Raider Invitational. The meet will begin at 10 a.m. with the women's 3000m and women's weight throw. Tickets may be purchased here.
