LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech men's tennis head coach Brett Masi announced the addition of Franco Ribero and Francisco Vittar on Wednesday afternoon.
Ribero and Vittar, doubles partners from Argentina, are set to join the men's tennis squad as freshman in January.
"It always feels good to get a big recruit, but to get two at the same time is twice the fun," Masi said. "Francisco and Franco are two wonderful players and more importantly great kids. They both have tons of experience and success and have great passion for the sport.
"Getting two players of this caliber will be huge in taking us to where we want to go this season and over the next few years. We can't wait for them to get here in January and join our family."
Ribero, who's reached an International Tennis Federation (ITF) juniors world ranking of 134 and is currently the 1,384 ranked player on the professional circuit, has played in ITF events in Israel, Uganda and Spain this year. He's ecstatic about the opportunity to play for Tech.
"I am very proud to be a part of the Red Raider family," Ribero said. "I am very excited to learn more about the university, the campus and my future teammates."
A highly touted player and playing partner of his fellow signee, Francisco Vittar reached an ITF junior world ranking of 20 last year. He's captured singles wins in Spain and Israel over the last year and is looking forward becoming a Red Raider in 2018.
"I can't wait to get to Lubbock," Vittar said. "It's a new experience for me, but I know it's going to be amazing."
Vittar and Ribero join a talented group of Red Raiders who have been to the NCAA tournament in two of the last three seasons.
The Red Raiders will begin their fall season on September 14 at the Harvard Chowda Fest in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
