UMC and Encompass Health unveiled it's new rehab hospital.

The specialized center is a place for patients who are recovering from serious injuries or illnesses. It can treat up to 40 patients at a time.

The freestanding inpatient rehabilitation hospital includes all private patient rooms, a spacious therapy gym, an in-house pharmacy, a dialysis suite for patients needing dialysis services during their stay, courtyard, dining room and dayroom areas.

"The advantage for Lubbock Texas is that there wasn't enough capacity to care for our residents that are in need of inpatient rehabilitation," Chris Wortham, CEO of South Plains Rehabilitation Hospital, said. "So we expand on that service line for UMC obviously in partnership with Encompass Health."

The center is near Colgate and Chicago in Northwest Lubbock. Services through the new hospital are expected to begin on May 20.

Patients will have access to 24-hour care and therapy sessions for three hours per day.
