All Three Lady Raiders Earn Wins on Day One in Midland
MIDLAND, Texas – Three members of the Texas Tech women's tennis team opened their fall seasons on Friday at the Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational. The trio of Lady Raiders went a combined 6-2 on the day.
After the start of competition was delayed two hours due to weather in the area, all three Lady Raiders picked up at least one singles win on Friday, with two advancing to the quarterfinals.
Sophomore Nell Miller earned a pair of straight-set victories to start off her weekend, opening the day with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Texas-Arlington's Nanaka Takeuchi. In the round of 16, Miller defeated Hana Kvapilova of Texas State, 6-1, 6-1 to remain in contention in the singles main draw.
Olivia Peet also snagged a couple of wins by straight sets on Friday. Peet handled Maria Aveiga of UTEP, 6-3, 6-1, before dropping Sarah Adams of Abilene Christian, 6-2, 6-0 to earn her spot in the quarterfinals.
Sophomore Isa DiLaura came up just short of a first-round singles win on Friday morning, dropping the third set in a tiebreaker to Biana Vitale of Lamar, but rebounded nicely in the consolation draw with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Texas State's Alyssa Zayat.
In doubles on Friday evening, Miller and Peet advanced to the quarterfinals with an 8-3 win over UTEP's Erandi Martinez and Eve Daniels. DiLaura and her partner, UAB's Alexia Vines dropped their match to Anastasia Kharitonova and Kristina Sorokolet of Baylor, 8-6.
All three Lady Raiders will continue competition on Saturday morning.
