Strong public support for fallen, injured first responders
It's the first time a Lubbock Police officer and a Lubbock Fire Rescue firefighter died in the line of duty on the same day. The public has responded in a big way to help the victims' families.
GoFundMe pages were set up for the two first responders who succumbed to their injuries and the firefighter in the hospital, each with a goal of $10,000. Those goals were quickly surpassed, with the total raised continuing to climb.
Lubbock Police Officer Nicholas Reyna, 27, was killed. He had been on the force for a year.
Lubbock Fire Rescue Lieutenant/Paramedic Eric Hill, 39, died at the hospital. He was a member of Lubbock Fire Rescue 10 years. He was promoted to lieutenant last year and was assigned to Station 10B.
Firefighter/Paramedic Matt Dawson, 30, is hospitalized. Stationed to 2A, he has been part of Lubbock Fire Rescue five years.
