LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Lady Raider basketball senior Vivian Gray was one of 50 players from around the country to be named to the 2021 Women's Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Watch List, released by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on Tuesday morning. Overall, the list of 50 women's players represents 11 national conferences with the Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC having nine players each.
The nod is the latest in a string of preseason honors for the Lady Raider newcomer. Gray was selected to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team earlier this month, and was won of 20 small forwards nationally to earn a spot on the Cheryl Miller Award watch list last week.
Gray announced her transfer to Texas Tech in October following two impressive seasons at Oklahoma State in which she earned First Team All-Big 12 selections and honorable mention All-America recognitions in each of her sophomore and junior campaigns. Averaging 19.3 points per game a season ago, Gray finished her junior season as the conference's second leading scorer.
The midseason 30 team will be announced in early February; players who do not make the watch list are still eligible to be selected for the midseason 30 team. Then, the competition will be narrowed down to 10 national semifinalists on March 2, 2021, and four finalists will be named on March 19, 2021. The winner of the 2021 Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy for Women's Player of the Year will be announced on April 3, 2021.
Gray and the Lady Raiders will open the 2020-21 season on Nov. 25 at 1 p.m. against UTRGV at United Supermarkets Arena. Fans interested in purchasing general admission season tickets for the 2020-21 Lady Raider Basketball season can purchase them online today.
