LCU Soccer 10-12

Lubbock Christian University men's soccer players Luca Hollenstein and Braxton Thorne were named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively, the league announced on Tuesday.

This is the second time this season for both players to win a weekly conference award, with both players also earning recognition on Sept. 14.

Hollenstein was a key part of Lubbock Christian's 3-0 upset of No. 6 West Texas A&M last Saturday. He led the back line to a shutout of the Buffs, as the Chaps became the first team this season to shut WT out. Hollenstein also contributed offensively, netting the game-winner on a free kick from about 35 yards out in the first half.

A sophomore, Hollenstein leads LCU in minutes played this season with 658, playing on a back line that has limited opponents to 1.50 goals per game. He has scored one other goal this season, also against WT on Sept. 25.

Thorne was forced to make just two saves, both of which came in the first half, but he made the necessary stops to help secure the shutout and upset. The Lubbock native has been in goal for all four Lubbock Christian shutouts this year, posting a goals against average of .98 and a save percentage of .769.

The Chaparrals will continue Lone Star Conference play on the road, taking on Oklahoma Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Oklahoma City.
