Lady Raider Basketball

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raider basketball team picked up its first Big 12 win of the season on Saturday afternoon, coming back to defeat TCU, 78-72, at United Supermarkets Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lady Raiders (4-2, 1-1 Big 12) were down as many as 16 points in the win, and trailed for 25 of the game's 40 minutes; however, relentless fight up and down the Texas Tech rotation helped the Lady Raiders get back on track.

Tech was led by the two-headed offensive monster of Lexi Gordon and Vivian Gray. Gordon turned in a season high 24 points to go along with four rebounds. Gray recorded her first double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds, and also added five assists, two steals and three blocks to help lock up the victory.

Gordon and Gray scored 15 and 12 points, respectively in the second half.

Alexis Tucker was also in double figures with 12 points and four rebounds. Najé Murray hit a season-high three triples to finish with nine points, seven rebounds and a pair of assists.

TCU started the game hot, leading 20-4 late in the opening quarter, and not surrendering the lead before half. Lauren Heard carried the visitors for much of the opening half, racking up 18 points in the first 20 minutes.

From that point, it was about chipping away the Horned Frog advantage. The comeback was sparked by a 9-0 run to end the first quarter, with Murray hitting a pair of threes and Gordon knocking one down as well. The run cut the deficit to 20-13 after the opening frame.

After being outscored in the first, the Lady Raiders outscored TCU in each of the following three quarters to pull off the comeback win. The team cut to within five before halftime, then used a strong third quarter to take back the lead. Gordon scored 10 in the third, while Gray, Tucker and Murray each added to the scoring to help the Lady Raiders outscore TCU, 20-14, in the period.

TCU would tie the game midway through the fourth, but Gray and Gordon stepped up to put the Horned Frogs away. Gray scored 10 points in the final period, while Gordon added five.
