FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas Tech men's golf team finished third at the Colonial Collegiate Invitational with Andy Lopez and Ludvig Aberg recording top-10 finishes in the season-opening tournament which was played at the Colonial Country Club.
The Red Raiders shot the low round on Tuesday to complete the tournament and finished at 10-over-par (288-285-277 – 850). Oklahoma won the tournament at 5-under, followed by Texas at 1-over after shooting even-par in the final of three rounds. Baylor, TCU and Kansas finished fourth at 23-over at the event which will lead into this weekend's Big 12 Match Play Tournament.
Lopez and Aberg led the Red Raiders by shooting 3-over at the tournament to tie for 10th, while Sandy Scott finished at 5-over to place 15th. Baard Skogen shot 8-over in his first tournament as a Red Raider for a 23rd place showing and Garrett Martin was at 10-over after his final hole to finish 28th. Carl Didrik Meen Fosaas rounded out the Red Raiders by shooting 11-over and a 30th place showing.
Lopez, who came into the final round in 34th, carded a 76-72-65 – 213 to rocket up the leaderboard on Tuesday and Aberg finished at 72-73-68 – 213 for his first top-10 finish. Lopez was 5-under in the final round with five birdies and 13 pars, while Aberg shot 2-under with four birdies but two bogeys. Scott came into the final round tied for the lead but would shoot 6-over on Tuesday to fall back. Lopez's 65 was the low-round for the tournament.
Aberg led the tournament with 12 birdies, while Tech was second in the field with 46 birdies as a team.
Logan McAllister won the tournament at 3-under after closing out the tournament with a 66 on Tuesday followed by Pierceson Coody (Texas), Quade Cummins (Oklahoma) and Harry Hiller (Kansas) who tied for second at 1-under.
The Red Raiders and the Big 12 field will return to competition this weekend at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament in Hockley, Texas at Houston Oaks. Tech is the reigning tournament champion after winning the second annual event last season.
